1. Courting Yahoo!
==================================================
I'm sure that you're all well aware of Microsoft's bid to buy out Yahoo. The topic has dominated the media all month, with speculation running rife about the proposed deal.
It's probably not surprising that Yahoo! turned it down.The $44.6 billion bid works out at $31 per share, while Yahoo says that the
offer "substantially undervalues" its brand, audience and investments.
Perhaps because of concerns that a Yahoo/Microsoft marriage might present a real threat to its dominance of the Internet there was a suggestion that Google was considering an advertising pact with Yahoo. Under such an arrangement Yahoo would outsource some of its search-related advertising to Google in return for a majority of the revenue.
However, the Wall Street Journal has an article which suggests that Google in souring on the idea, saying that while such a pact can't be ruled out, "...it doesn't appear likely because of Google's concerns about the intense regulatory scrutiny it could attract, given Google's and Yahoo's significant shares of the Web-search and online-advertising markets."

Other reports suggest that the talks that have been taking place between Yahoo and News Corp could result in a possible combination of News Talk's Fox Interactive Media arm with Yahoo.In this scenario Yahoo would gain the social networking site MySpace while News Corp would take a 20 per cent stake in Yahoo.
There are other reported options, such as Yahoo buying Time Warner's AOL.
Whatever the final outcome it looks as though the courtship has just begun, with a number of commentators suggesting that Microsoft will raise its bid to a level that Yahoo will find very difficult to refuse.
In the meantime, you can still get great deals at Microsoft AdCenter and at Yahoo!.

4. Odds and Ends
========================
In my last newsletter I told you we were expecting a new grand child. We were thrilled with the arrival of a baby boy just before Christmas. He was the best Christmas present we could ever have.
The holiday season is over now. Down here in New Zealand children have just started back at school and what's been a wonderful summer seems to be drawing to a very rapid end. I know that as our leaves start to turn yellow and fall, those of you in the Northern Hemisphere will be looking forward to the coming of spring. I hope that means that people will be eager to buy what you're selling and that 2008 is a very profitable year for you all.
