1. Overture announces Auto Bidding Tool

Overture's new Auto Bidding system will actually allow you to reduce your bids without losing any rankings.

Quite simply, you set your maximum bid and it will automatically rank you the highest position it can for that bid price. It also automatically lowers your bid to 1 cent above the next listing.

Here's an example:

I set my maximum bid as $1.50 on the keyword 'used cars.' Because the highest bid at the moment is only 56 cents, my listing is now ranked #1 and I pay 57 cents for it.

If, however, the advertiser now in the #2 spot is using Auto Bidding has a maximum bid of $1.25, your bid will become $1.26 and his will stay at 56 cents.

I don't see how this will increase the new advertisers Overture sees over the coming months, but I can see this move will make existing advertisers happier for being allowed such a service for free.

2. Espotting in Spain and Overture UK news

Espotting in Spain

Espotting has just launched in Spain reaching about 42% of the Spanish market helped by its partnership with Yahoo! in Europe.

Espotting is set to start up operations in Italy later this year. It already has such European partners such as Lycos Europe, Tiscali, AltaVista France, Ask Jeeves, Web.de, Looksmart.co.uk, Netscape and of course, Yahoo! Europe.

Overture UK and AltaVista UK

Not huge news, but AltaVista UK is now going to be displaying an extra Overture UK listing in the top section of the site. There are now 3 listings displayed.

Overture is also to be launching in France later this year. More information coming soon.

3. ClickPatrol closes down and GoToast expands
==============================================

GoToast recently announced the acquisition of ClickPatrol assets including its customer base, trademarks and domain names.

ClickPatrol users were offered a free trial with GoToast before being able to choose whether to continue employing GoToast's services or not.

GoToast also announced that Overture has increased the maximum number of Automated Updates allowed from 6 to 24 times a day.

This limit only applies to automated software solutions such as GoToast and BidRank. You can still make an unlimited number of changes manually.

4. Unable to continue updating Alexa Results page

As some of you may have noticed, Alexa is no longer displaying the data required for me to update the Alexa Results page here

If you are aware of a way to obtain the actual number of Alexa visits to a site rather than the Alexa ranking or "Average Traffic Ranking." let me know.

In the mean time I am tossing up whether to display the "Average Traffic Ranking" in place of the number of Alexa visits or to take down the page all together.
