1. Google's new pay per click program provides traffic boost
============================================================

AdWords Select is the new pay per click advertising option Google has for you.

Even though Google isn't a pay per click search engine, and you're only bidding to have your ad displayed on the side, rather than in the results, I thought I would mention it because it is a viable alternative.

Google already has traffic. This is something everyone knows, so you don't have to worry that it will take 6 months for your account balance to be depleted.

AdWords Select allows you to target your audience even more than just by bidding on keywords. You can also target a specific language and specify which countries will see your ad.

You can even limit your daily spending like Search123.

Another benefit of the AdWords Select program is the ability to edit your ad and have the changes visible instantly. Also, your bid is automatically reduced, eliminating bid gaps so you don't pay too much.

However, Google will consider the quality and popularity of your ad when ranking it. Bidding the highest amount doesn't always mean your ad will be first.

Even though the minimum bid is 5 cents, more popular keywords will cost much more.

I have noticed that some keywords on Google are available for a lot less than on Overture, but this may not be the case for long.

I think it's worth considering at least testing the new AdWords Select advertising at Google.

2. Overture news: MSN, third party management tools and more
============================================================

Overture and MSN:
The agreement MSN has with Overture has been extended to next year.

The previous testing period had proved successful and your Overture results will now appear under the heading "Sponsored Sites" at MSN until 2003.

Overture says to maximize your results from this agreement you should have your listing ranked in the top 3 results.

MSN:

Third party bidding tools:
(Management Software)

Overture has chosen BidRight, ClickPatrol, GoToast, PPCBidTracker, PPC Management, SavePerClick, Sure Hits and APEX Pacific Corp. to be its authorized bid management tools.

Overture has amended its Advertiser Terms and Conditions and the Advertising Agency Terms and Conditions to help deal with the large amount of usage these management tools are getting.

All other third party management tools have been disallowed access to automate bid changes. Also, the maximum number of times any management tool can update your listing at Overture now is 6 times a day.

You can still however update your listings as many times as you want manually through the DTC.

Visit my management tools page for a list of the pay per click search engine management tools.

Overture Germany:

As previously mentioned, Overture is moving into the German market. Now Overture Germany has launched, you will have access to a large portion of this market with AOL Germany and T-Online jumping on board.

I'm told, for a short while longer the discounts Overture is offering are still available.

For a 49 Euro discount email Overture at
kundenservice@de.Overture.com.

3. Espotting news: Ask Jeeves deal and European expansion
=========================================================

Espotting and Ask Jeeves:

Your top three results at Espotting are now displayed in a more prominent position at Ask Jeeves, being the first results displayed under the heading, "pick a website from the list below."

While both your title and description are included, your listing will also still appear in the Metasearch at the bottom of the page.

Espottings top 10 results are now 4-13.

Espotting expands in Europe:

Espotting has signed a deal with Tiscali, one of Europe's largest ISPs, where Espotting France's listings will be displayed on Tiscali's French search engine, Nomade.fr.

The top two listings will appear atop the page marked as Sponsored Links. Espotting says, "[They] are clearly differentiated from Nomade.fr's search results so that users are fully aware that they are commercial listings."

Other sites in the Tiscali network will also display the Espotting listings as a part of Nomade.fr's results when searches are conducted.
