1. SearchCactus raises minimum bid
==================================
If you have a bidding account with SearchCactus, you probably received this email from them.
"...SearchCactus.com is increasing the minimum bid value to
have your site listed in our search engine from $0.01 to $0.02.
As of August 22, 2000, we will no longer be accepting a $0.01
bid to have your site listed in SearchCactus.com. If you do
not notify SearchCactus.com, or change your bid(s) to the $0.02
minimum by this date, the system will automatically change it
for you."
"In addition, please be advised that our advertisers are only
charged for unique visits per day. If the same
SearchCactus.com member visits your site 10 times in one day,
your advertising account will only be debited once. In
essence, you are only paying for one visit per user per 24-hour
period."
The email then goes on to say that SearchCactus is offering advertisers an additional 20% bonus to all deposits added within 2 days after the email was sent.
Without having seen statistics on how many times someone clicks on a single listing each day, I still doubt that only being charged once per day will counter the cost of increasing the minimum bid. Although it is a good idea from an anti-fraud point of view.
I hope other pay per click search engines don't follow suit. After all, it is doubling the cost of advertising with that search engine for some small businesses.
2. Self-Regulated Search Engine Standards Proposed
===========================================
FindWhat.com has proposed a series of industry standards for the Internet advertising and search engine industries.
FindWhat.com drafted and distributed its industry standards proposal in response to the discovery that another company had bid on thousands of keywords at FindWhat.com, to redirect people to non-relevant pages.
3. GoTo.com on the stock market
