Google now offers a free account management tool to its AdWords users called AdWords Editor. This program available for download is chock full of time saving features for AdWords users.
To download AdWords Editor, simply go to: http://services.google.com/adwordseditor/ and hit the "Download" button.
Please note that it is only available for Windows XP users at this time. Downloading the software is a relatively simple process. Once you have downloaded the program, the management of your AdWords campaigns just got easier.
One of the greatest benefits of using AdWords Editor is speed. Once your account is initially downloaded, you are able to work at the speed of your computer rather than the speed of your internet connection. This is almost always faster.
You can also create new campaigns offline to upload at your leisure and/or make sweeping changes to your ads or keywords and upload everything at once.
Analyzing and creating campaigns and AdGroups can also be done at your leisure.
If you are away from your internet connection, you can still work on your AdWords account. This is good news for many, though your family and friends may not welcome this new possibility.
Several features are also available to help streamline your AdWords marketing campaign. The features we will discuss, bulk upload, search and keyword grouper, can make managing your AdWords marketing a snap.
Bulk Upload.
This handy feature allows you to ad several keywords or AdGroups at once. Adding additional keywords from your brainstorming sessions (or creating new campaigns) has never been easier. Simply choose which campaign you are working on, click “Add Multiple Keywords” and then cut and paste your keywords.
You can quickly and easily add bulk keywords to any campaign or specific AdGroup just by clicking on the campaign or AdGroup you wish. This feature can be used to add bulk AdGroups to a campaign.
Search. The search capability feature has many benefits to help you manage your campaign. One item you will like is that the search feature brings up phrase matches.
For example, if you have a broad campaign for “insurance” but do a search for “auto insurance”, it will bring up only the phrase “auto insurance” and not every match for “insurance” and “auto.” You will find this extremely helpful.
But the most useful feature to the search capability is that the search results are segmented by categories. The search feature contains tabs for keywords, ads, AdGroups and campaigns. This can be especially useful if your AdGroups and/or Campaigns are named only by number and have no other relevant meaning, i.e. Campaign 1, AdGroup 1. For a campaign on “batteries”, it is easy to find the term “laptop” by clicking on any of the tabs.
The screen above shows all occurrences of “laptop” in the keywords. Clicking on the Text Ads tab will quickly bring up all occurrences in it as well.
To harness the power of this feature fully, the search feature will allow you to quickly locate any word you wish to replace, edit or remove from any portion of your campaign.
Keyword Grouper. If you are preparing your AdGroups for maximum relevance, this feature will be a favorite for you. Located under “Tools,” the Keyword Grouper will take your keyword list, examine it for common terms and then sort them into groups for you. You may also tell it any common terms to ignore when grouping as shown below:
Clicking “Next” will group your keywords.
And voila! Your keywords are grouped in two easy steps rather than manually grouping your keywords.
These are just a few of the features available in AdWords Editor to help you streamline you PPC marketing campaigns. These time saving benefits will give you more flexibility to spend your time doing what you do best – creating profitable AdWords campaigns.
