Pay Per Click Search Engines Update #58
October 24, 2006.
It's very hard to concentrate on working today. Here in New Zealand, we're heading towards summer, and as I look out my window I can see the last of the spring blossoms starting to fall off the trees.
I'd like to be out among the roses, rather than wrestling with the thorny issues of pay per click search marketing.
As advertisers become more sophisticated and demanding the pay per click search engines are beginning to respond by offering better services.
Yahoo's new offering is outlined below

1. Hold on to your hats! Yahoo! releases new "Panama" system
===================================================
By now most of you will have heard that Yahoo has announced the long-awaited launch of its new "Panama" interface for search marketing, finally replacing the system that has been in place since the Overture days.
US advertisers will be invited to migrate to the new interface in stages, over the rest of the year and early next year. However, if you want to get an early start you can request an early upgrade to your account here;
http://advision.webevents.yahoo.com/scp/viewer/index.php? client_id=5467&event_id=17241
You will get a chance to preview the new interface before switching, but once once you've decided to switch, migration is not reversible.
There are plenty of exciting new features in the new interface, including a new dynamic design structure, a YSM dashboard view at log-in, which shows alerts on the account, performance charts ad campaign summaries.
Advertisers will get instant activation of keyword bids on most ads with bids going live within a few minutes. There are exceptions - sensitive content such as trademarked or potentially illegal content will be subject to editorial review.
Advertisers will also find enhanced forecasting, with interactive graphs for selecting keyword pricing.
There are many more features, including new keyword selection tools and a host of other tools designed to help advertisers maximise their ROI.
The next stage in the Panama roll-out is the launch of their Marketplace Design, planned for early 2007. The launch of the new ranking algorithm will utilize Yahoo's Quality Index, a 1 to 5 scale that calculates your ad's ranking based upon ad
quality and bid price (similar to the Google model).
Most commentators seem very happy with the changes. MarketingPilgrim writes:
"I found Panama to be very easy to use, make a lot more sense
and help me to identify more areas of opportunity for
campaigns. If Yahoo can implement the algorithm change as
effectively as this interface roll-out, they could very
quickly gain the approval of online advertisers and improve
their market share."

2. New Optimizer tool from Google
===================================
Google has announced the launch of Website Optimizer, a new tool to help AdWords advertisers test different landing pages.
Using this tool will help determine which page results in the most conversions.
With Website Optimizer you can run multivariate experiments on landing page content, including headlines, promotional copy, and images.
